The boxy vehicle that put Scion on the automotive map, the xB, is going away.
Scion says it is killing off the xB, one of the brand’s original and most eye-catching models, after two generations as part of the normal rotation of models. It will disappear after 2015.
The original xB, which hit the streets about a decade ago, was compared to looking like a microwave oven on wheels. Small wheels at that.
It was so different, and so cool, that the Japanese import caught on with customizers from the start. Clubs grew up around it. It gave the Scion brand the kick start it needed to try to score with Millennials, then in their late teens and early 20s, the target market for the brand.
In its second generation, the xB became more normal looking. Some thought it looked like a Volkswagen. It maintains its practicality as a small crossover — without the dramatic looks.
