Shooting At Home of UAW VP – Car Pro News

UAW VPA 50-year-old woman is recovering after being shot by her husband in an apparent accident on Monday night in a suburban Detroit home that property records indicate is owned by UAW Vice President General Holiefield.
Police would not disclose who was involved in the shooting, but said in a statement that the 60-year-old homeowner was cleaning his handgun at the kitchen table when it accidentally discharged around 8:30 PM last Friday.
“A single round was fired, which struck his wife in the abdomen,” said Lt. John Michalke with the Macomb County Sheriff Department.
The woman was alert when she was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. She is expected to survive and remains hospitalized, but her current condition is unknown.
Holiefield, who said in November that he will retire as head of the UAW’s Chrysler department in June, was not named in the police statement. The incident took place at a home in Harrison Township, Mich.
According to police, another couple was in the home after having gone shooting at a range in Roseville with the homeowner. They began cleaning their guns at the kitchen table when the discharge occurred.
All persons at the home were interviewed and were cooperative with police. The matter will be forwarded to the Macomb Prosecutor’s Office for review.
