Subaru wants to put $300 in your pocket. Well not literally of course, but if you buy a new 2016 BRZ you’ll be getting the same paired down sports focused car of 2015, but for $300 less and new standard infotainment features. If that doesn’t make your tail spin, this fall also brings the arrival of the new limited Series.HyperBlue models.
The 2016 BRZ will have a starting price of $25,395 on the six-speed manual transmission Premium base trim. The Limited trim will start at $27,395 with manual transmission and at $28,495 for the six-speed automatic transmission that offers steering wheel paddle shifters.
The new standard features include the Subaru Starlink Multimedia System with a 6.2-inch single-touch screen. The media system will include HD Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity for streaming, iPod connection, a USB port, and auxiliary input jack. It will also come standard with a backup camera.
In line with the wave automotive technology, the BRZ will also feature smartphone connectivity with access to features and apps like Aha, Pandora, iHeartRAdio, Stitcher, Calendar, News, and Weather.
The exterior of the Limited models will now come standard with a body-color trunk spoiler, fog lamps, and Keyless Access. The interior will comes standard with leather and Alcantara upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats.
The price has dropped, but the engine has not, which is a good thing. Under the hood, the BRZ will still pack the 2.0-liter BOXER engine that delivers 200-horsepower and be paired to the same lightweight body design with its low center of gravity combined with sport precision steering.
2016 also brings the arrival of the limited Series.HyperBlue models that will include the BRZ and WRX STI. The BRZ Series.HyperBlue features all of the new standard technology on the BRZ for 2016 along with special Hyper Blue paint.
Inside, the HyperBlue model also features a blue theme with a black with blue accents design that includes leather and Alcantara upholstery with Hyper Blue leather seat bolsters and headrest along with blue accent stitching on the seats, steering wheel, center console, and door trim. The interior also gets special silver BRZ logos on the seatbacks and floor mats that feature the logo in blue.
Pricing is not yet known on the Series.HyperBlue models, but they will be extremely limited with only 500 BRZ and 700 WRX STI models going into production. They are also set to arrive this fall.
