Until now, Audi’s e-tron electric technology was confined to test cars and a stunning prototype sports car. Now it looks like the German brand is ready to bring it to the masses.
The Audi A6 L e-tron concept is a sharp departure of the brand. The vehicle, shown at the Beijing auto show, is a plug-in hybrid. It can go a full 49 miles on pure electric power alone, far more than most electric cars today. The “L” in the car’s name is a nod to the extended cabin to create more space in the rear seat, an important consideration in China where many cars are chauffeur driven.
Yet this A6 has an engine on board producing another 211 horsepower when needed.
To give it extra range, the Audi is made extra light because of extensive use of aluminum and other lightweight materials.
