If you’re on the hunt for three-row SUV options – you’re not alone.
Large SUVs are back in fashion again thanks to low gas prices. It can be a tough buying decision though with so many third-row seating options out there. So to help you out, here’s a comparison of our recently reviewed 2017 three-row family haulers in no particular order.
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS550
If a luxurious large SUV with a ton of power under the hood gets your blood pumping, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS550 can help you out with that. People who generally buy this size SUV are very interested in the third-row seat, which in this vehicle is roomy. The third-row seats fold down flat at the push of a button. I’ve seen better systems to fold the second-row seat down for access to the third row, but it’s ok. It has a power liftgate but my favorite feature are the optional $180 heated and cooled cup holders. Now there is something you can really use.
2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Platinum
If outstanding value and interior quality is your priority – the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Platinum could earn a spot in your driveway. My top-of-the-line tester is right up there with Mercedes-Benz when it comes to the cabin quality. It looks and feels great. It seats up to seven with a second-row bench seat. Heated second-row seats have a lot of leg room, too. Better yet, sliding seats make it easy to get to people in the third row. Overall, I’d say the limited platinum trim is $5,000 less than anything else equipped like it.
2017 Acura MDX
If easy accessibility to the third-row seat is what makes your day – check out the 2017 Acura MDX. This 7-passenger SUV has the easiest way to get to the third-row seat I have ever seen. All it takes is one push of a button on the side of the rear seat. Bear in mind, this third-row seat is primarily for children and not adults. The second row is spacious with a pull-down center console — or you can seat three adults instead. It handles great and is a ton of fun to drive. It’s also a great value – costing less than you’d expect for an SUV equipped with all of its technology, performance, and safety features.
2017 GMC Acadia Denali
If forgetting things in your back seat is a problem, the 7-passenger 2017 GMC Acadia Denali is the solution for you. It features GM’s new Rear Seat Reminder. The system alerts you to check your back seats for kids or pets when you get to your destination. Be aware GMC downsized the 2017 Acadia, so the third-row seat is pretty much reduced to kids only. And it’s lost a good amount of room behind the third-row. But the second-row seat is roomy. And the 2nd and third-row seats fold flat for cargo space.
2017 Nissan Armada
Finally, if a truck-based SUV is on your wish list, the 2017 Nissan Armada is an option. It’s a mixed bag for me – and doesn’t normally rank high on my list of fav large SUVs. But I have to say the interior is where it shines. It’s also huge, seats 8 people and the third row is big enough to fit adults.
My final words of advice – consider your needs carefully, do your homework, always take a test drive and check out the features important to you.
