So what do you get that person in your life who would really like a McLaren, but can’t afford one? Well, it just so happens McLaren has a solution for that. But it’ll still cost you a pretty penny or two. Ok, let’s make that a lot of pennies.
Yes, McLaren says one solution is to give him or her this 1:8-scale McLaren P1 replica from Amalgam Fine Model Cars. At $12,000, McLaren calls it the perfect ‘stocking stuffer’ for that sports car lover in your life. (Clearly, I need to beef up my stocking stuffer budget.)
Made to order, the replica reproduces every last detail of the actual car, except for course a working motor. The automaker says it’s nothing if not precise. It even replicates the same creases in the seats you get with the real-life P1.
“The complexities of the build made up of so many individual components make them a true piece of art,” says the company. “Made to order, this is the ultimate present for the ultimate car in the McLaren Automotive family.”
The company ended P1 production last week, only building 375 of them.
The good news is that the replica is just one of the ways McLaren is paying tribute to the sportster. We’d probably go with one of the far cheaper options. Like a Mattel-HotWheels diecast miniature. Scalextric also created slot cars in various colors, including Volcano Orange. Maiston, meanwhile, crafted a 1:14 scale radio-controlled model, complete with illuminating headlights and taillights.
Or better yet, there’s also always a lego set.
