Well, we can pretty much guarantee that you’ve never seen a car ad like this. At least we can’t think of one. Mercedes-Benz is going full-on with the latex in its new SL Roadster spot.
It features Russian supermodel Natasha Poly alongside the roadster, and there is no shortage of blue latex covering them both.
Mercedes-Benz brought in latex fashion designer Atsuko Kudo on the project. The automaker says the latex was used to show off the “sinuous lines and sensual curves” of the roadster. The car required 130 square meters of material, combining five separate sheets glued and polished by hand. The photo shoot took place on location in Miami, Florida.
The new SL launches in the U.S. next spring. It’s been designed to look sportier on the front end with an all-new hood, bumper and new LED headlamps.
Mercedes-Benz says it’ll offer more powerful engines, the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, DYNAMIC SELECT with five transmission modes and Active Body Control with the curve tilting function.
The model range now includes the SL450 with a V6 engine uprated to 362 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque for 2,000-4,200 rpm, as well as the SL550 with the powerful 449 hp V8 engine.
Additional models include the two Mercedes-AMG models in the guise of the SL63 and SL65, the latter with a V12 engine.
