The New 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

First, Mercedes-Benz debuted the all-new C-Class Coupe. Now it’s performance division Mercedes-AMG is raising the bar a step further with the debut of the track loving AMG C63 Coupe.

Designed as the sportier, and much envied, sister of the regular C-Class Coupe, the AMG C63 Coupe gets a design, engine, and technology all its own.

“The new AMG C63 Coupe embodies our conception of progress: It offers impressive longitudinal and lateral dynamics at an extremely high level along with improved fuel economy. In addition, we are making a bold visual statement with the muscular design. Our customers can therefore experience the progress with each of their senses: seeing, hearing, feeling and, above all, driving!” says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The only shared features between the AMG C63 and its sister C-Class Coupe are the doors, roof, and trunk. The design difference is most noticeable between the two in the C63’s increased track width on the front and rear axles and overall more aggressive design.

The increase in track width is accommodated with distinctively flared wheel arches with larger wheels that are up to 10 inches on the front axle and 11.2 inches on the rear. This combines to create better lateral acceleration, traction, and handling.

As the sportiest C-Class ever, the C63 Coupe’s design includes a lower, arrow-shaped, twin grille with AMG lettering. The rear also gets specially designed air outlet openings to improve rear airflow along with a unique low profile spoiler on the trunk lip.

Unique to the sporty AMG C-Class Coupe are the AMG designed Ride Control suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, Dynamic Select transmission modes, a rear-axle limited-slip differential, and dynamic engine mounts.

The AMG C63 Coupe offers a base and a S trim option. Both models use the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that is used in the C63 Sedan and in the AMG GT S. The base model gets 469 horsepower, a zero to 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, and a max speed of 155 mph. The S model gets 503 horsepower, a zero to 60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, and a max speed of 180 mph.

The 2017 AMG C63 Coupe is set to go on sale next summer after the 2017 C-Class Coupe goes on sale in the Spring. Look for the C63 Coupe at its world premiere in the Frankfurt International Motor Show next month.
