U.S. News & World Report has announced its 2012 awards for best family cars, with Ford and Honda collecting the most.
Eight brands won awards in 18 categories, including cars, SUVs and minivans. Ford and Honda got four each, while Acura, Buick, Subaru and Toyota won two each.
“American families need cars that are safe, reliable and designed to make life easier,” said Jaime Page Deaton, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars. “The winning vehicles provide the best mix of the bells and whistles today’s families want with the basics their need.”
The highlights, according to U.S. News, include:
Honda CR-V as the best compact SUV: Features include strong reliability ratings, a comfortable cabin and a versatile cargo space.
Buick Enclave as the best midsize SUV: The Enclave has an unusually roomy third row of seats and safety features such as a rear-view camera, voice controls and OnStar.
Ford Taurus as the best full-size car: An expansive interior and strong crash-test ratings make the Taurus a good choice for families.
Subaru Impreza as the best compact car: Standard all-wheel-drive, spacious seating and a useful cargo area give the Impreza an edge.
Honda Odyssey as the best minivan: The Odyssey offers good crash-test scores, a flexible interior for different cargo and seating arrangements and multiple technology options.
