VW Recalls 50K 2015 Jettas Over Headlight Issue

Vehicles Affected: 50,000 model-year 2015 Jettas

The Problem:   It is possible that certain affected Volkswagen Jetta vehicles with halogen headlights contain software within the control module that will turn off the low-beam headlights when the high beams are activated. This causes the light output from the headlights to be too low according to FMVSS regulations. Reduced lighting at the front of the vehicle can affect the driver’s vision in driving conditions where illumination is beneficial, and may increase the risk of overlooking obstacles in the roadway, which could result in a crash. No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported.

The Fix: To fix the issue, Volkswagen will notify all known owners of affected vehicles and will update the software within the affected control module. This work will be performed for customers free of charge.

What Owners Should Do: Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
