Princess Grace Kelly would be pleased. Aston Martin revealed its new AM37 powerboat this week at the Monaco Yacht Show. It marks the first nautical exploration by the British automaker and it’s a doozy.
Aston Martin began preparing for sea two years ago. Aston Martin’s EVP & Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, and his team worked with naval architect company, Mulder Design. Quintessence Yachts stepped in to help with engineering.
Reichman notes the design follows Aston Martin aesthetic with “power, beauty, and soul.” The goal was to create a boat equal to the timeless elegance of the brand. Looks they were successful.
The AM37 falls under the powerboat category of day cruiser. It switches to an overnight boat with ease. The cabin’s table converts into a bed. Mood lights and A/C keep it posh in there. Amenities include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and – naturally – a loo.
The exterior design keeps it sleek, chic, and modern. From the pictures included in the release it looks like a beautifully crafted arrow head shooting through the water. The wraparound windscreen helps create the fast sleek feel. The decks can slide to cover the cockpit with one button.
Like a boat convertible, a bimini top stows under the engine hatch when not in use. If that’s not enough to get you rocking party boat style, the design includes a swim platform.
Martin puts an automotive spin on the dashboard. It includes a carbon fiber dash that mirrors ones in its sports cars. Fine leather covers the steering wheel. The throttle handles and joystick are done in polished metals. The infotainment system includes navigation and advanced media functions. Comfortable seating accommodates 8 people.
Two versions of the boat are offered. The first goes up to 45 knots (51 mph). It comes with the choice of two 379-horsepower Mercury diesel or two 430-horsepower Mercury petrol engines. The top AM37S shoots to 50 knots (57 mph). It carries two 520-horsepower Mercury Petrol engines.
