The Collection: RM Auctions rounds out its record 2014 calendar with the presentation of the esteemed Sam Pack Collection, November 14-15 in Dallas, Texas. Highly respected and well-known in the automotive industry, Sam Pack’s Five Star Collection represents more than a dozen years of careful and dedicated acquisition. With an exceptional eye for quality, Mr. Pack built his collection by handpicking a diverse assortment of automotive rarities in a range of different categories. From a terrific series of icons from the fifties and sixties, to a remarkable collection of Detroit muscle, and an assortment of concepts, street rods, customs and modern collectibles, the offering features some of the finest, rarest and most desirable American automobiles ever produced.
As part of an effort to downsize the collection to a more manageable level, allowing Mr. Pack to remain active in the hobby, RM Auctions in association with Auctions America will lift the gavel on a selection of 132 vehicles at the November sale. All lots will be offered ‘without reserve’, selling to the highest bidder.
For those unable to attend the event in person, a range of remote bidding options, including absentee, Internet, and telephone bidding are available, and the auction will stream live at www.rmauctions.com providing real-time coverage of the event.
A Trio of Cobras-Combining style and performance, the Sam Pack Collection is headlined by a menacing trio of Shelby Cobras, including:
Lot 188 – 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra, chassis no. CSX 3279, (Est. $1,100,000 – $1,400,000)
Powered by a 427 cu. in. Ford V-8 producing an impressive 425 bhp, this ultimate road-going Cobra was purchased by Pack in 2008. Documented in the SAAC World Registry, it is believed to be just 12,000 miles from new and features original Sunburst wheels and Blue Dot tires.
Lot 158 – 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra, chassis no. CSX 2048, (Est. $900,000 – $1,100,000)
Finished in a striking red with black interior, this example was briefly used as a show car on the famous Ford Custom Caravan traveling display, before passing onto Ford Special Projects Director, Jacques Passino. Upgraded with a 289-cubic inch engine in the early 1970s, it was in single ownership from 1971 to 2011 before making its way into the Pack Collection.
Lot 201 – 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra Alloy Continuation, chassis no. CSX 7069, (Est. $350,000 – $500,000)
A CSX 7000 series Cobra built by Shelby American, this Continuation Cobra is stunning in polished aluminum bodywork. Significantly, it was originally acquired by automotive legend Carroll Shelby for his personal collection, as supported by accompanying documentation.
A Celebration of Ford History: Sam Pack is highly respected as one of the nation’s most influential Ford dealers. Among a chain of 10 dealerships, he has four “Five Star Ford” dealerships in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, all of which have achieved numerous top volume and customer satisfaction awards, ranking them among the very elite performers in all of the Ford Motor Company.
It is therefore no surprise that Pack’s collection is highlighted by a magnificent series of Fords. In total, the offering includes 60 Fords, spanning 92 years of production.
Lot 156 – 2006 Ford GT, chassis no. 1FAFP90S66Y400835, (Est. $300,000 – $400,000)
One of the greatest supercars produced in the 21st century, this example was purchased new by Mr. Pack. A perfectly preserved example (it is still wearing plastic on its seats and delivery stickers on its windshield), it boasts delivery mileage only, with less than 13 miles on its odometer.
Lot 200 – 1957 Ford Thunderbird ‘F-Code’, chassis no. F7FH347627, (Est. $175,000 – $225,000)
Affectionately dubbed the ‘F-Bird’, this supercharged Ford represents the most desirable Thunderbird from 1957. Equipped with rare three-speed transmission with overdrive, as delivered from the factory, it provides a unique combination of cutting-edge performance with luxurious practicality. Certainly one of the highlights of the collection, it was purchased by Mr. Pack – the car’s third owner – in 2002.
Lot 154 – 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, chassis no. 0F02G197851, (Est. $85,000 – $100,000)
Aptly described as Ford’s “performance machine”, this Boss 302 has been part of the Pack Collection for 10 years. Striking in Grabber Blue with black vinyl bucket seats, it was the recipient of a superb five-year restoration by marque specialists, the quality of which was recognized via numerous awards. Full proceeds from the sale of this vehicle, along with part proceeds from admission to the auction, will benefit Holy Angels, a residential and training campus for indivdiuals with intellectual and development disabilities in Shreveport, Louisiana.
